Hand forgedsticikng tommy. Descriptionfeatured is an antiqeu hand forged miner's candle holder spike, referred to as a sticking tommy. These holders date from the earliest dasy of mining. The royal british columbia museum describes them in the earliest days of coal mining, candles were used for illumination. To hold the candle while digging, the miner devised a unique holder. The candle socket was attached to a sharp spike, which allowed the miner to jab it into pit props thta lined the workplace. This sticking tommy has two spikes, one at the end and one on a hook next to the candle socket. The long spike has a twist design. Dimensionsmeasurse approx. 11 1/8 long. Conditionhas typical signs of age including some rusting and pitting. Gerat natural patina. A great peice of mining history!
